Post Description: Grimsley sophomore Bene Daye Ponder discusses her favorite tips and tricks for starting and maintaining a garden!
Hey Guys! It's Tuesday and you know what that means? Gardening. So I'll be giving you a few tips and tricks about gardening and how to keep away pests.
Let's Get Started!
1. Choose A Variety Of The Same Veggies
- When gardening it is good to buy different types of the same veggie. For example, if I wanted to plant tomatoes I would choose to plant heirloom, beefsteak and cherry tomatoes. The reason for this is because you get a variety of different veggies.
2. Make Your Own Drip Irrigation System
- First you'll need PVC pipe. You will need to attach the PVC pipe together to take measurement and mark where to cut the holes. Next disassemble all the pieces and cut to the size of your garden bed. Next, using a drill, drill small holes all along the sides. Then attach all the pieces and then place a piece on the end to close it off. You can the place it in your garden bed, and when you want to water the garden, just fit the hose into the PVC pipe and turn the hose handle about a 1/4 to 1/2 of the way so that the PVC doesn't get too full.
Make Your Own Pest Spray
You will need:
- A spray bottle
- 4 drops of Lemon Oils
- 4 drops of Peppermint oil
- Enough water to fill the spray bottle
Instructions
Add the water and oils to the spray bottle and shake before each use!
My name is Bene Daye. I am a sophomore at Grimsley and am in the YA Writers of Grimsley Club. I have always loved writing, whether it is songs, poems, or books. I have always wanted to have a blog of some sort, and during quarantine I grew bored and decided to create a blog. I thought really hard on all of my favorite things and put them together. Everything that is in my blog has a special meaning to me that I will never forget. That is why I love to write.
