Summary
Ready Player One, a novel written by Ernest Cline, is a book about a kid named Wade Watts. Like many other people, both young and old, he spends his time in the OASIS, a virtual reality simulator and new way of living for kids of the future. People have come to accept the OASIS as a new way of living (for the earth is losing supplies), and through the OASIS, people can become something new. The OASIS was originally a video game developed by Gregarious Simulation Systems, and the late creator James Halliday created a series of games to find his hidden Easter egg that he hid in the whole program. Wade begins on a race against time to find the Easter egg before the corrupt businessman and president of IOI, Nolan Sorento, gets to it first and takes over all of the OASIS.
Review
When I first read Ready Player One, I was instantly sucked into the world of the OASIS. The story was compelling and filled with much meaning about how we live life. I enjoyed the movie just as much, despite some differences that occur in the movie and the book. Each character is filled with such charm and personality, especially as the book progresses. I loved the cast that was chosen to play these characters in the movie, and it keeps the story going, especially to its climatic finish. The movie and book are filled with many pop-culture references around each corner, and the action keeps on coming. It’s a wild ride for anyone who loves an action movie.
Disclaimer: This movie is rated PG-13 for language, action, suggestive themes. Be cautioned if you have any younger children in the family.
