Dear Reader,
When the idea for this website first began, it was to be a place to post stories and memories from Grimsley, as well as a place to catch up with friends while we practice social distancing. After spending time with it, though, it’s becoming much more.
Both of us have been given the chance to interview local students: Eliza with the chance to interview a local high schooler about how she’s spreading positivity through art, and Isabella with seniors who didn’t get the chance for a proper goodbye.
This project has not only already connected us with Grimsley, but also to the larger Greensboro community—and at the time of this writing, it hadn’t even been launched! We’re extremely excited to get to interview more students, publish more articles, share more stories, and celebrate seniors who are moving onto bigger and better things. There’s been a lot of love and care and hard work put into this project—believe it or not, learning how to code from scratch has been quite the challenge—and we hope that this project can continue to grow and strengthen our school’s community, even if we can’t get together in person.
We want to provide a platform for all Whirlies to share their voices—we want to give others the chance to share what they’re doing during quarantine, to share their favorite memories, to recommend movies and shows and music, to tell us what comes next.
Grimsley isn’t just restricted to a group of buildings. Being a Whirlie isn’t just limited to football games and singing the Alma Mater on Friday afternoons. Being a Whirlie is more than that.
We hope that this website brings hope and the chance to stay connected during this challenging time in our lives, and we can’t wait to see how it continues to bring us together.
With love,
Eliza Benbow & Isabella Romine
