Mary Mac will be attending Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, to double major in International Affairs and Spanish. She plans to play on Marymount’s soccer team as a goalie.
Mary Mac’s favorite Grimsley tradition is singing the school’s alma mater after every football game. Though only a small part of what makes Grimsley the school it is, she believes it shows Grimsley’s school spirit and support for its football team, as well as the school’s support for the community as a whole.
Her most memorable moment was playing soccer her senior year. Although it was cut short after only two weeks, the team had prepared to play since early Spring. Whether it was the team’s workouts or just getting together, she enjoyed being with the group of girls. As one of only two seniors, she had a fantastic time helping to lead the team as a captain during the time they had.
Her greatest achievement over the past four years is definitively committing to playing soccer at the collegiate level. Despite having seen her brother go through the same process a few years prior, she never knew how much work was involved in looking for a school that had both a compatible major and a team she wanted to be a part of. Given that she tried out several other sports at Grimsley, it’s a point of pride for her that she was able to determine and seek out what out she wanted for her future.
Mary Mac’s advice for any current or rising students is: “Definitely take advantage of your time during these four years. You never know when something like, I don’t know, a global pandemic, will pop up out of nowhere and take it all away from you. So, as lame as it sounds, don’t take anything for granted, and try to make the best of everything. Also, try not to stress out too much. I understand getting into the college you want is a very big deal, but dealing with school and everything else is already stressful as is—give yourself some more credit and try to have a good mindset throughout it all.”
Mary Mac is most excited for her freshman year of college. Although she hasn’t yet been in touch with any of the other freshman soccer commits at Marymount because the official visit was cancelled due to the pandemic, she’s looking forward to meeting everyone and being part of a great group of girls as equally passionate about soccer as her.
