Susan is going to college next year at UNC-Chapel Hill as a double major in Business and Spanish.
Her favorite year at Grimsley was her senior year, despite its unexpected end. All her times at school with her friends from off-campus lunches to getting accepted into college to beating Page helped to make it her most memorable year. One memory in particular stood out: while in Spanish this year, her class took a mini field trip to the auditorium just to sing happy birthday to her friend onstage.
Her favorite Grimsley tradition is singing the alma mater every Friday before leaving for the weekend. Not only was it something for her to look forward to, but it built school pride in the process.
Susan was active in many different circles during her time at Grimsley. She ran cross country all four years and was named a captain her senior year, which she found to be an enriching experience. She was also named a student ambassador and enjoyed giving tours to new students and families around the Grimsley campus. In the larger Greensboro community, Susan was also heavily involved in her local robotics team and served as the Vice-President in a non-profit that teaches young students about engineering. She was also able to further give back to the community as an officer in the Service-Learning Ambassadors Club. One of her greatest high school highlights was being able to attend Governor’s School as a Spanish student after being enrolled in the Spanish immersion program since kindergarten.
Susan’s advice for rising students is: “Don’t take anything for granted. Make the most of each day, and hopefully after quarantine, everyone will have a new perspective and appreciation for being able to come to see school and see your friends. Finding the balance between schoolwork and having the most fun year is difficult, especially with stressful college applications (or arranging future plans). But you will make it through, and the year will fly by, so remember to enjoy every moment you can!”
In the future, Susan is most excited to continue her academic journey at UNC. She hopes to travel and study abroad and get involved in campus life, as well as grow as an individual and within the communities around her.
